South Indian Filter Coffee Tradition

South Indian Filter Coffee Tradition

A timeless ritual rooted in heritage and craftsmanship. South Indian Filter Coffee is known for its rich aroma, strong body, and smooth finish — traditionally brewed using a metal filter and served with frothy milk.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tablespoons finely ground Planet Coffee (preferably filter blend)
  • ½ cup hot water (just below boiling)
  • ½–1 cup hot milk
  • Sugar (optional)
  • South Indian coffee filter

BREW METHOD

  1. Add finely ground coffee to the upper chamber of the filter.
  2. Gently press the powder using the disc.
  3. Pour hot water over the grounds and close the lid.
  4. Allow decoction to drip slowly (10–15 minutes).
  5. Mix the strong decoction with hot milk.
  6. Add sugar if desired.
  7. Traditionally serve in a tumbler and dabarah for frothy texture.

PRO TIP

The strength of the decoction determines the richness. Use freshly ground coffee for deeper aroma and flavor.
